international adult learner’s week 2008

article 26 of the universal declaration of human rights states that everyone has the right to education and that it
shall be directed to the full development of the human personality and to the strengthening of respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms. It shall promote understanding, tolerance and friendship among all nations, racial or religious groups, and shall further the activities of the United Nations for the maintenance of peace.
the secretary-general of the canadian commission for the united nations educational, scientific, and cultural organisation (unesco) announced last week that mar 3-9 will be international adult learners week 2008. this is the 60th annivesary of the universal declaration of human rights and the right to edcuation and learning, and the secretary-general is quoted in a press release saying it is a “perfect opportunity to underscore the important connection between adult learning and building sustainable communities that value diversity and human rights.”
